Daily writing prompt: On what subject(s) are you an authority?

Daily writing prompt
On what subject(s) are you an authority?

This always seems to be a hot topic. If I say I am an authority, I am arrogant. But someone has to be an authority on something somewhere or we would never get anywhere. Well, I do happen to think I am an authority on some things. That is not to say I know everything on topics I believe I am an authority on. I do not believe anyone can know absolutely everything about anything.

I believe I am an authority on my job. I did not get to where I am by knowing nothing. I definitely don’t know everything, and I always have questions, but I know a lot.

I believe I am an authority on reading the weather radar. I have spent the past 13 years staring at it. I am terrified of the noise of thunder. I also don’t like fireworks or balloons. Therefore, I need to know how long a storm is going to last in order to try to function around it. I am not a weather god, nor did I go to school to be a meteorologist. But 13 years is a very long time to look at weather apps, and I’m fairly confident that except for those times when the weather gods change the weather randomly, I know how long a storm will last and what direction it is going.

I believe I am an authority on technology, but this one is tricky to word. I have absolutely no idea how a computer actually works and when you start saying words like RAM and motherboard and intel you’ve completely lost me. But I am not afraid to push buttons, so I am very confident when you put a computer or TV or phone or whatever in front of me I can figure out just about any program on it and how to fix almost any issue on it. It doesn’t go deeper than that. If there is something wrong in the actual programming, I’m lost. And the only coding I ever did was on MySpace. I also didn’t know that WAS coding. It said to put this song on your profile, copy the following and paste it in this specific box. I’m very good at instructions.

I KNOW I’m an authority on spending money. We won’t go there.

Most days I’m an authority on my children. I can usually figure out why they are doing whatever they are doing. I do NOT know why Keilani asked me to turn on “Blippi” and then immediately cried because “I can’t want Blippi”. She lost me on that one. But I do know that Isabella is no longer thirsty because she doesn’t want to go get her water out of her room because she’ll miss watching whatever is on TV (Just go get it! Water is more important or I’ll turn it off!)

After almost 11 years, I’m a fairly good authority on my husband, except on those occasions when he’s having a bad day dealing with his TBI and PTSD from his car accident and his temper gets the better of him. But we’re learning together to navigate those days.

I mentioned instructions earlier. I am an authority on instructions. I love crafts, so I can usually follow any instructions on any craft to make whatever I am trying to make. But that follows for trying to fix something, trying to go somewhere, trying to do something, really anything.

I am also an authority on procrastinating on my homework, which is what I was working on before I switched over to work on my blog. I should probably get back to that. What are you an authority on?
