I have been finding all sorts of activities for my daughters to make sure their homeschooling journey starts with a bang. I have, of course, been teaching them since birth. But now we’re getting into traditional academics and I am finding resources everywhere and I am excited.
I bought a couple of workbooks off of Amazon, including Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills and The Essential Homeschool Preschool and Pre-K Workbook. We have tried to keep the TV only on alphabet shows, including Sesame Street. I also purchased The Moments at Home curriculum. I want my girls to be able to read. I love it so much and I was taught at 3. I want them to be able to discover the wonderfulness that is reading.
Aside from that, I also discovered amazing toolkits on World Wildlife Fund to teach about animals and the earth. And I purchased Let’s Go Geography. We can’t only focus on reading when there are so many other things to learn.
My daughters love doing everything together, so even though they are 15 months apart and Isabella is able to do some things without Keilani, I do not want to split them up. I know as they age, they will discover different interests and will eventually do different things. But for now, they love being together and have the same interests, so I keep it that way. Keilani is still too young for some things. So I look for programs that allow 3-year-olds, which are few and far between. Everything seems to start at 4. Girl Scouts and Scouting America start at 4.
We did a trial of martial arts for a month, but the commitment and the price were too much for our family, so that idea is on hold for now, even though they loved it. We have signed them up for 2 dance classes for the summer. They are in tumbling/jazz and ballet/tap. They have had one class so far of each and they loved it. Hopefully that continues, as they both love to dance in general and this will have more structure and give them the social aspect as well.
I also signed them up for SpiralScouts, so they are now Raindrops. They had their first virtual meeting and they loved it. I decided to attempt to charter a Hearth, so I am in the process of doing that. I also discovered Quest Club and I signed them up for that. The amount of badges are amazing and are great for homeschooling.
I joined a group on Facebook called Secular, Eclectic, Academic (SEA) Homeschoolers and they have amazing resources and have really motivated me for my homeschooling. I have many many homeschooling groups I am a part of on Facebook but they are the ones that really got me going after a virtual conference they had last month.
I am so excited to be on this journey with my daughters. There is so much to teach them and learn with them!
